Dog care on the beach: protect your pet!
Luckily, today there are already many beaches that we can go to with our dogs in summer. However, it's not just about just going. We must be very attentive to the care that our furry needs. These are the tips we want to give you about taking care of dogs on the beach.
Just before leaving home...
... Get your backpack ready! There you cannot miss your drinking, fresh water, a toy that floats in the water and sunscreen.
If you want you can also bring her a towel to lie on her, although chances are he prefers to bounce in the sand than croquette.
A basic for the care of dogs on the beach
We've already said it, but we repeat it: your sunscreen! There are specific ones for them, so don't risk causing damage to their skin by putting yours.
The low-haired and low-pigmentation areas are the most likely to burn from the sun, so make sure you cover them well with cream.
Protect your pads
Dog pads are very sensitive to heat. If the sand is too hot, they can be burned and if you carry it over a rocky area, they could be cut off.
There are pad protectors for these cases. Don't hesitate to wear them!
A good umbrella
On your beach day you can't miss a good umbrella. In the care of dogs it is always important that dogs have a protected place from the sun to prevent heat strokes.
Still, avoid being on the beach in the hours when the sun tightens the most. This is advice for him and you.
Water and not just the sea
You may think that when you enter the sea water your dog is already fresh enough. Error! Have him drink frequently to avoid dehydration.
When at sea, be very careful that it does not swallow salt water: it could end gastrointestinal problems.
And one more tip: if you see that your dog doesn't want to enter the water, don't force him! There are dogs that don't like the sea and you don't need to give them a hard time.
Control your dog at all times
Just because you're on a cane-enabled beach doesn't mean you let go and forget about it. Make sure you don't disturb other people or get into a fight with other hairy ones. You're there to enjoy!
If your pet starts making holes, make sure it doesn't splash sand on everyone and don't forget to plug it when you leave.
Also, when you get in the water don't let too much go and don't let it if you're in a current zone.
Watch out for jellyfish!
Also at sea you will have to be very careful with the animals that live in it, since hedgehogs or jellyfish can do a lot of damage to your dog.
If you notice redness in your pet's skin, swelling or itching, it may have been stung by a jellyfish.
Ideally, if this happens, is to prevent the dog from scratching and not moving too much so that the poison does not spread. Ice for about 15 minutes (never directly on the skin) and if you see jellyfish remains on your body, gently trace them. But most of all go to the vet as soon as possible.
Clean up your poop
Always! Whether it's walking on the street, in the park or, in this case, on the beach, you should bring sachets to pick up your feces.
And of course, don't leave your garbage behind!
Don't forget to take care of the dogs once you're home
When you get home, it is recommended that you give your dog a freshwater bath to remove the remains of sand and salt water from his body. This way you will keep your skin and hair taken care of.
Did you write everything down? Well, enjoy your beach day!
