How to heal tick bite wounds in dogs
You could say that, along with the fleas, ticks are the big archenemies of our little four-legged. No matter how careful we put into it, there can always be one that sticks to our pet and that causes damage to your skin. Today we explain how you should heal the wounds caused by a tick bite in dogs.
The importance of well curing a tick bite in dogs
In case our dog has caught any ticks, it will not only be important to remove it. Healing the wound you have caused will also be essential.
This is because the result of that tick bite is an open wound and therefore exposed to infections.
In addition, after the attack of these parasites, your dog may have a lump on his skin. This may be due to two things.
One reason is that there is an uncured infection that has caused a lump of pus. In that case it will be necessary to remove it correctly.
How do I heal tick wounds?
First, at the time of removing the tick (or ticks, if there is more than one) you have to disinfect each bite.
To do this, use gauze and a disinfectant. You can choose between: alcohol the same that we use for our wounds (as long as the bite is not very close to eyes and mucous membranes), iodine diluted in a little water or warm water with a neutral soap.
In the case of alcohol and iodine, the gauze should be soaked in the chosen product and applied in taps on the wounds.
If you want to use the soap to clean, apply it with a little water, leave it acting no more than 10 minutes and remove the whole product with lots of warm water.
How many times a day should I cure my dog?
These cures should be repeated 3 times a day.
In the case of soap and alcohol it is not necessary to do anything before recurring, but if you have used iodine.
Before reapplying, you'll need to clean the above debris with damp gauze and let the tick wound air for a few minutes. Then you can perform the cure again.
We know that for your dog it is uncomfortable and it hurts you to see it with a bell, but it is very important that you put it on. This way you will avoid the wounds being lamed, especially after you have put a disinfectant on it.
But on top of all this, it will be very important that you take your dog to the vet. As we know, ticks can transmit certain diseases, so with tests we can check that it is not affected by any.
Can I use any home remedies for tick bite in dogs?
Of course! There are certain products that you have at home that you can apply to the skin of your dog with a positive effect.
Honey is an antiseptic that helps moisturize the skin. You can apply a little of it to the wounds and cover them for a while. Repeat it 2 or 3 times a day by first cleaning the previous app and you will see its good results.
The beneficial effects of aloe Vera on the skin of humans and animals are 100% proven. You can use it to cure the tick bite in dogs by applying its gel to the wound until it is absorbed and repeating the action at least 3 times a day.
Chamomile is another home remedy that you can use. Make a well-loaded infusion and, once cold, dip gauze into it and place them over the wounds. When dry, remove and wash the area with warm water and neutral soap.
On the other hand, if the wound is already infected, crushed garlic can be used as an antimicrobial and thyme and rosemary as a disinfectant and as an anti-inflammatory. However, in this case, we strongly recommend visiting the veterinarian so that you can prescribe appropriate treatment, as the situation is more serious.
Our dear friends suffer a lot from the wounds caused by ticks, so we need to help them recover as soon as possible.
