The most common Pug or Carlino diseases

There are breeds of dogs that are more likely to suffer certain diseases than others. Each has its weaknesses and today we will focus on Carlino dogs, a breed that, because of its physiognomy and other aspects of its body, is prone to certain specific health problems. These are the diseases of the Pug that most often suffer.

Diseases of Pug or Carlino
The Pug or Carlino is one of those breeds of dog that do not go unnoticed. Whether it's because of its curious look (small-bodied, plump, with a round face, covered in wrinkles and nose crating) or because of how cute and funny they are it's one of the most beloved hairy as a pet. Although from Waksman we always remember that it doesn't matter the breed to love an animal!

If you are well cared for and cared for all your health needs, you can live between 12 and 14 years. So, we're going to explain to you which pug diseases are the most common.

1. Respiratory diseases
First of all, we need to highlight respiratory diseases. And is that nose flat that gives that particular aspect to the breed is because it is a brachycephalic dog. Breeds suffering from this syndrome have a number of anatomical abnormalities that are reflected in the shape of their facial skull (wider and shorter) and affect the nostrils, palate and airways, in general.

Have you ever heard a Pug snoring while he was awake and a little agitated? It's for this reason!

These respiratory problems force us to take certain precautions with this hairy.

One is not forcing them to exercise too much. On the other hand, they must be kept safe from high temperatures, as they are prone to heat strokes. And a lot of eye on the weight! Extra kilos don't help you at all.

The Pug or Carline is not the only breed of dog with brachycephalic syndrome; it is also the Bulldogs, the Boxer and the Boston terrier, among others.

2. Skin diseases
Pug has their body covered in wrinkles and this can cause problems if not paid attention to it. When bathing your dog or going for a walk and it's raining, be sure to thoroughly dry every crease of your skin. This will prevent moisture from remaining in your body by favoring the appearance of certain fungi and dermatitis.

It's also important to brush it frequently to remove dirt and dead hairs and check that, among those wrinkles, there's nothing. With this you will avoid skin infections and allergies, very common in Pugs if they are not well cared for.

3. Eye diseases
Oh, those eyes that the Carlines have and they fall in love with us! The pity is that those two jumping balls that have eyes suffer a lot.

Being so big and being somewhat "unprotected" by the shape of their face, they tend to be in contact or rub shoulders with external elements and with the hairs of their folds themselves. This often causes ulcers, although they can also develop conjunctivitis, entropies and what is known as "cherry eye", which is a prolapse in the gland of the third eyelid that dogs have and that causes that gland to leave its red site.

4. Joint diseases
One of the most common Pug diseases at the joint level is dislocation of the knee, petulance or patellar. This means that the kneecap is out of place.

Another of the usual problems of this breed is legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, which involves a degeneration of the head of the femur of the hind legs, causing damage to the hip joint.

Hip dysplasia, although more common in larger dog breeds, can also appear in a Carlino.

5. Obesity
Sure, they look at us with those eyes and we can't deny him anything. Error! One of the diseases of Pug that has the most problem is obesity, since it results in all the other problems that we have mentioned.

This breed is very prone to weight, so it is essential that you perfectly control the food rations you give it. In addition, you should always offer him special food for his race and age.

6. Nervous system diseases
There is a disease to which special mention must be made, since it is fatal and its origin is unknown. It is not an exclusive disease of the Pug and does not occur in all cases, but it is hereditary, so when you are going to adopt a dog you should ask if any of its ancestors suffered it.

This is encephalitis or necrotizing meningoencephalitis, or what is the same, inflammation of the brain and those membranes around it, which damage the hairy nervous system.

You know the most common Pug diseases, now take care of it as you deserve!
